I stored some cans of soft-drink in the small refrigerator. One day I opened the fridge to find that the Diet Coke had exploded (it froze) but the regular Coke did not freeze or explode. In terms of freezing-point depression, what happened here?
*
Hint: Regular coke has about 39 grams of sugar dissolved in it, Diet Coke has only about 0.1 gram of artificial sweetener in it.
Freezing Point Depression has a relative at the hot end of the boiling phase: Boiling-point elevation. Anti-freeze is used in car radiators to stop them from freezing solid in winter, but it is also called a “coolant” because it can elevate the boiling point of water. So, if you don’t have any antifreeze (coolant) at hand, what household or kitchen supplies could you use untl you could get some proper antifreeze instead? *(*NB Don't really try this)

What have you seen used in the kitchen to change freezing-point depression? (NB: we don't want the engine to rust...)
